Poem of the Day: Everyday you play … by Pablo Neruda [EN]/[ES] Juega todos los días…

Everyday, you play… [trans. S.W.]

Everyday, you play with the light of the universe.
Subtle visitor, you arrive in bloom and water.
You are more than this little white head I grasp tightly in my hands
everyday, like a cluster of fruits.

And you are like no one because I love you.
Leave me to tend to you between the yellow garlands.
Who is writing the letters of your name in smoke
between the southern stars?
Ah, leave me here to remember how you were then,
even when you didn’t exist.

The wind suddenly howls and strikes at my closed window.
The sky is a coagulated net of sombre fishes.
Here they will come to give all the winds, all of them.
The rain will undress.

The birds pass as they are escaping.
The wind. The breeze.
I am only able to fight against the strength of man.
The storm swirls around the dark leaves
and sets free all the boats that were tied to heaven last night.

You are here. Ah, you will not flee.
You will respond until my  last scream.
Curled up by my side as if you were afraid.
Even though, at some point, a strange shadow ran through your eyes.

Now, now as well, my little one,
you bring me honeysuckle,
and your breasts are soaked in its scent.
While the sorrowful wind races to kill butterflies
I love you, and my happiness bites at the plum of your mouth.

How much you will have suffered to get used to me,
to my solitary and feral soul, to my name that terrifies all.
We have seen this ardour many times, the light kissing our eyes
and all over our heads,
Unwinding twilights in gyrating fans.

My words rained over you, caressing you.
Way back when, still loving your sun-kissed and pearly iridescent body.
Until I shall think of you as the owner of the universe.

I will bring you cheerful mountain flowers, bellflowers
dark hazels, wild baskets of kisses.
I want to make with you…
What spring makes with the cherry trees.

[Original – ES]

Ah tú no huyes.

Cuanto te habrá dolido acostumbrarte a mí,

Still, Solidarity

This situation is particular,
Spectacular, piacular-
Still can’t really believe
What’s happened to her.

Oh, dear America,
Oh, land of the brave,
Your people have shown
They are ignorant knaves

Stream back to the time
When there were still slaves
Blatant legal bigotry,
Enforcing cruel trades

It seems little has changed…
No, there has been improvement-
Yet we’ve just went backwards
In monumental movement.

Devastated reactions
With the recent election –
Don’t know who to blame
For outrageous selection.

However, remember,
To stand all together
In rainbows and colours
Against fearsome weather

Turn this hate into patience
Trying to understand
How destiny wants us
To learn from this plan

For I am still hopeful
In the kindness of others.
I will teach from my sorrows
And spread warmth from my lovers-

These are tough times to bear
It’s a burden we share.
Let us show that we care
For each other’s welfare.

I am not in America, nor have I lived there for a very long time, but this is a similar reaction to this year’s Brexit- only now, I am directly effected. I can only hope that my friends and loved ones who are will stick together in these times. Take care of yourself and others.

Sentimentality Hour: Here Comes A Thought (Steven Universe)

Lovely song from Steven Universe about trust and working together with someone.

Take a moment to think of just
Flexibility, love, and trust
Take a moment to think of just
Flexibility, love, and trust

Here comes a thought
That might alarm you
What someone said and how it harmed you
Something you did that failed to be charming
Things that you said are suddenly swarming

And, oh, you’re losing sight, you’re losing touch
All these little things seem to matter so much
That they confuse you
That I might lose you

Take a moment, remind yourself
To take a moment and find yourself
Take a moment and ask yourself
If this is how we fall apart

But it’s not, but it’s not, but it’s not, but it’s not, but it’s not
It’s okay, it’s okay, it’s okay, it’s okay, it’s okay
You’ve got nothing, got nothing, got nothing, got nothing to fear
I’m here, I’m here, I’m here

Here comes a thought
That might alarm me
What someone said and how it harmed me
Something I did that failed to be charming
Things that I said are suddenly swarming

And, oh, I’m losing sight, I’m losing touch
All these little things seem to matter so much
That they confuse me
That I might lose me

Take a moment, remind yourself
To take a moment and find yourself
Take a moment and ask yourself
If this is how we fall apart

But it’s not, but it’s not, but it’s not, but it’s not, but it’s not
It’s okay, it’s okay, it’s okay, it’s okay, it’s okay
I’ve got nothing, got nothing, got nothing, got nothing to fear
I’m here, I’m here, I’m here

And it was just a thought, just a thought, just a thought, just a thought, just a thought
It’s okay, it’s okay, it’s okay, it’s okay, it’s okay
We can watch, we can watch, we can watch, we can watch them go by
From here, from here, from here

Take a moment to think of just
Flexibility, love, and trust
Take a moment to think of just
Flexibility, love, and trust
